One dark passage of still dusk, in
the deep twilight forest,
As sensed a faint stirring in the
cold winter's breathing air.
The creatures of the once born were
naturally apprehensive;
Even more so on this forbidding cold
night of exiled light.
Along the northern path on the edge
of the dark dusk woods,
Scarce signs of life, amongst dense
tangle of thorn and holly;
Scattered by the medium spaced
gathering of pine and cedar;
Where shades of the slain and the fallen
still remain there.
Of druidic reveries, wine vessels,
dryad's nurture and pain,
There was before it all, of unknown
origins, the ancient one.
Once bonded by others, echoes to remains, a residual presence,
Of dark fear and lost dreams, to deep
pining and the lament.
Remaining in shadows, the beast was crouched in wondering gaze.
Where once followed, now a dark
remnant of a dying world.
Whispers of rites in passages of time
haunted the still twilight air,
The one waited, with the chains of
the past, darkness for hope.
Covered in sleek black, iridescent
spiked furs, muzzle to tail;
A creature of unmatched elegance with razor claws on worn paws,
In hallowed dominion, restless still in this forgotten wooded cell.
Suspended in perpetual dusk, the watcher gazed as it remained.
The beast breathed deeply, sniffing the stillness of the forest.
Musky scents that gradually rose into the approaching slow mist.
Felt and thought, watch of coming midnight blue, of fade to pale;
That must come, black of cooling and flowing darkening skies…
